Amniocentisis
Miscarriage Risk Lower Than Thought
Researchers at New York’s
Mount Sinai School of Medicinestudied about 35,000 U.S.
women who were 10-14 weeks pregnant by offering them
amniocentisis.
3,000
women underwent the procedure and related miscarriages
were lower than expected. 1 in about 1,600 of the
pregnancies studied resulted in miscarriages by 24 weeks
that were related to the amniocentisis. This is lower than
the 1 in 200 results that were reported in the 1970's.
